A plot of land can be borrowed against to the benefit of another plot of land (land easement) or a specific person (personal easement). The owner of the plot borrowed against must, as a result, acquiesce to certain interventions on the part of the beneficiary or may not exercise his property rights to a certain degree. Footpath and roadway rights; usufruct, tenancy rights and construction rights are examples of easements. Easements are regulated by publically notarised easement contracts registered for entry into the land registry.
